Francis E. Stanley

Francis E. Stanley (1849-1940)

Better known as F.E. Stanley, this local born entrepreneur along with his twin brother F.O. Stanley invented the first steam car in the United States in 1879. Years later the pair co-founded the Stanley Motor Carriage Company which prided itself on its dedication to detail and quality. These cars were constructed until 1927 when the internal combustion engines became popular in the U.S. The invention of the Stanley motor car changed the course of world history as we know it today.
